PTE, also known as Pearson Test of English is a computer based English language test aimed to assess the English speaking skills of the candidates aiming to study abroad. The basic modules covered in this test are- reading, writing, listening and speaking. The whole test is completed in a single session which lasts for about 3 hours and is taken at a centre in a secure test environment. The speaking of the candidate is done at the computer, in which your voice is recorded and then sent for marking. The biggest advantage of PTE test is, that you can get your results very quickly, just in about 5 days.
The PTE Academic Scores are accessed through an online account. You will receive an email which will notify you once your scores are available. The scores of the PTE Academic are measured against the Global Scale of English, which gives you an accurate overview of your skills. Your score report would have several sections which are- your overall score, your personal details, photo and detailed breakdown of your performance. The overall PTE scores reflect your overall English language ability. The scores are a reflection of your overall proficiency in the English language.
PART 1: SPEAKING & WRITING (77–93 MINUTES)
PTE writing and speaking test lasts for 77-93 minutes. To assess your skills, you will be required to summarize passages, respond to questions and repeat sentences. There are two sections, which are- Speaking Section 1 and Speaking Section 2. The Speaking Section 1 contains personal introduction and speaking section 2 contains a number of items where you will be required to listen to an audio and then respond into the microphone. Here you need to answer both objective and subjective questions. MCQ, fill in the blanks, Look for the missing words, highlight the right paragraph and thereby throw light on the wrongly framed sentences. You will be ask to submit the synopsis of the spoken content. Also you need to pen down the dictation.
The listening section directly means assessing your listening skills. It is the part 3 of the test but will also have some integrated speaking and listening questions in part 1 section. The part 3 of the test would contain questions that are based on the video and audio clips that will begin automatically. You will be required to hear each audio or video clip only once. You can take notes. For the each question, you will have an opportunity to set the volume level. When the audio clip is playing, you can move the control bar to the right to enhance the volume or to the left side to decrease the volume.
